I've got the $25 harbor freight garage screen. A heavy mesh curtain/s may be more suitable for a lot of activity. You might consider how much back and forth you'll be doing too and any opportunities for people to trip into whatever you install there. If you proceed with screen, you should make sure that the framing is such that you can un-panel it and replace it yourself if need be. Medium dogs and cats have not been a problem, nor an occasional coyote. The screen we have now has yet to need any replacement over that time, but there also has not been any large dogs around. Anything that is stiff like metal screen (brittle) will be a constant nuisance as it breaks and rips easily. I don't remember the type of screen we have in there now, but I think it is likely vinyl or some other polymer and reasonably flexible and durable. I've replaced a lot of patio screen when I was younger.Ĭan't comment specifically to a garage, but our patio was completely re-done about 15yrs ago. This is an idea that sounds good on paper, until you get yourself into a lot of extra work. Don’t want to drop $1,500 on a screen and mess it up with no recourse. You never know when you might pick up a board or something and hit something, I know it’s something I have done all too often. Maybe it’s possible to remove the aluminum trim to fix the screen if that ever becomes a problem. I would personally look at the installation manual and see if there is any way to fix the mesh (or replace it if it gets damaged) to see if tear out is user serviceable. Just speculation but something to consider otherwise I would 100% go with it if you aren’t worried about anyone or anything possibly pushing on it. The retractable door of mine is easy enough to get back on track but those side panels, while probably better secured since they’re fixed, may not go back so easily if forced out. If you have any concern of a child or a pet pushing against the screen then I wouldn’t invest into it. Except that I have two little kids that like to test the tensile strength of the mesh. So my experience based on that is that it’s fantastic. I own a mesh screen door for my back door that looks similar to the primo option you have here.
